Byars enlisted for a period of three years in the Confederate A rmy on January 28, 1863 at Grassy Pond, SC. He was in Company K of the 18th Regiment SC Infantry. On the Company Muster Roll for Nov. & Dec., 1863, Sgt. Bridges reported hi m absent on special furlough since Dec. 23, 1863. He was last paid by Capt. Lemmons on October 31, 1863.
