PARAN SUNDAY LOCKHART MAN, FORMER RESIDENT OF BLACKSBURG AND GAFFNEY, SUCCUMBS HERE SATURDAY Peter R. Byars, of Lockhart, who was well-known in Blacksburg and Gaffney, died here saturday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. B. Martin, on Providence Road. He had been at Mrs. Martin's only a few days, having come to Gaffney from Lockhart several days before. Mr. Byars was sufffering from an incurable disease, and his death was not unexpected. He was seventy years and six months old. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Mt. Paran Baptist Church, being conducted by the Rev. R. E. Waters and the Rev. Herbert N. Massey. Burial followed with P. S. Courtney, funeral director, in charge. Due to the bad conditions of the roads, two automobiles that started from Gaffney to Mt. Paran were stuck on the way and failed to arrive. Mr. Byars is survived by the following children: Mrs. Martin; Mrs. J. H. Moore, Mt. Paran; Mrs. C. J. Moss, Blacksburg; Mrs. M. C. Blanton, Buffalo; Mr. C. E. Byars and Mrs. E. E. Rippy, Grover; R. B. Byars, L. G. Byars, Gaffney; and Curtis Byars, Lockhart. One brother, Mattie Byars of Cherokee Falls, and a sister, Mrs. Frances Sarratt, also survive. Mr. Byars was born and reared near Blacksburg, where he lived until about seventeen years ago (1908). He moved to Gaffney and lived here for a time, and later went to Lockhart to make his home. His first wife, who was Miss Talulah Turner, died in 1908, and the following year he married Mrs. Alvena Gilmore Tucker, who also survives him.
