Read More	The Big Timber Pioneer,Thursday, March 18, 1937, Big Timber, Montana Charles Ben Lamb Buried Here With Impressive Funeral Rites Yesterday Funeral service for Charles Ben Lamb, who died in Los Angeles, Calif., Saturday following an operation for appendicitis, was held at St. Mark's Episcopal church yesterday afternoon, the body having arrived Tuesday evening, accompanied by Mrs. Lamb, a bride of less than a year. Rev. Frank Durant, who had performed the marriage ceremony, also conducted the service, the little church edifice being crowded to overflowing by friends and sympathizers. At the grave the Masonic committal service was held, a firing squad of American Legion, in charge of funeral arrangements, gave a parting salute, and the remains of a well known and popular Big Timber boy were laid to rest by the side of his father, Henry Lamb, who died many years ago. Pallbearers were selected from at the Legion and Masonic orders, as follows: Ted C. Bush, Clyde E. Davis, H. E. Mjelde, Arnold Sleveland, Arthur Zeleny and R. A. Bray. Floral offerings were many. Deceased was born in Big Timber 42 years ago, attended public and high schools in this city, later taking a business course in Seattle. He was an expert accountant and had held various clerical positions, chief of which was journal clerk of the state senate, at which he was an adept, and for which he was chosen regardless of the political complexion of that body. During the summer months he had been assistant purchasing agent of the Yellowstone Hotels Co. May 20, 1936, he married Constance H. Sewell of Vancouver, B. C. They left for Honolulu,, where he was with the Moana Seaside hotel until chronic dysentery compelled his return to the United States. He leaves a mother, Mrs. Mary Lamb; a sister, Nellie; brother, Alva L., all of this city; a sister, Mrs. O. D. Olsen (Gertrude) of Livingston. In athletics deceased was always active and as a member of the Sweet Grass high basketball team, the only one town the state championship, he gained a state wide reputation. That team was composed of deceased and Paul Kress the latter on of the greatest all around athletes in Montana history, forwards; Albert Esp, center; Mike Hoyem and Ralph Pound, guards; Ike Crawford, coach. At the Bozeman tournament they went through all teams by the following scores: Missoula, 18-14; Kalispell, 18-15; Lewistown, 33-20; Anaconda, 23-10. For the final game, Billings contender, a special train with 105 fans went from this city. It started as a close game, but Lamb and Kress were too many for the opposition, the former making 10 and the latter 14 points of a game ending Billings, 14: Big Timber, 28. Esp made the other two points. Deceased had many friends here and everywhere, and his early death is a matter of sincere regret.
