The couple had six children and when Mrs. Luedtke's health failed it became his duty to be both father and mother to the children for 37 years. LUEDTKE FUNERAL RITES HELD SATURDAY Charles Bert Luedtke was born June 8, 1883, near Arcadia, to August and Bertha Luedtke. He lived near his birthplace all of his life. He died at Hastings on November 9, 1960, at the age of 77 years, five months, and one day of age. He was united in marriage to Estella Elizabeth Moon on November 10, 1910, at Ord. To this union six children were born: Millard Luedtke and Mrs. Grace Nelson of Comstock, Merwyn Luedtke of Broken Bow, Mrs. Sarah Hensley of Marietta, Texas, Frank Luedtke of Arcadia, and Mrs. Ruth Zimmerman of Grand Island. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of Broken Bow, his children, one sister, Mrs. Minnie Hoffman of Scottsbluff, 11 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Those preceding him in death are his parents, four brothers, Herman and Elmer Luedtke and two in infancy, two sisters, Clara Luedtke and Mrs. Bertha Edmondson. When his wife was ill and hospitalized, he was left to raise his six children and for the next 37 years he tried to be both mother and father. Charley, as he was known to everyone, was a friendly person who tried to bring Christian happiness to everyone. His home and his heart were open to all. His house door was never locked as he trusted the Lord completely to take care of him. Music and laughter were his gifts that his friends and his children all knew. The pattern that he set through his lifetime has brought a reward to his children too. Funeral services were held from the Comstock Methodist church at 2 pm Saturday.
