Bruce DeWitt Died After Being Struck By Auto DRIVER OF CAR IS NOT BLAMED Accident Happened East Of Millersburg On Berlin Road Charles Bruce DeWitt, 40, foreman of the planesmen at the Briar Hill Stone Company was instantly killed about eleven o’clock Friday night when struck by an automobile while walking along the Berlin road east of Millersburg in the vicinity of the Briar Hill country club. The automobile which caused his death was driven by Delmar Hecker of Barr’s Mills who was accompanied by Forest Hostetler also a resident of that vicinity. The young men were absolved from blame in connection with the accident by Coroner J. C. Elder who was called to the scene immediately following the accident. Earlier in the evening Mr. DeWitt had attended the opening games of the county basketball tournament at the local high school gymnasium on of his sons being a member of the Glenmont high school team which competed. After leaving the school building it is presumed the man became confused in directions and started walking east under the impression that he was returning to the business section of town, where he had left his automobile. According to the youths who occupied the automobile which caused his death, DeWitt was struck as they turned out to pass another car which they had overtaken and neither the driver nor young Hostetler was him until the moment of the impact. Funeral services were held Monday from the home in Glenmont and burial was made in the Glenmont cemetery.
