"NAPA PIONEER MEETS DEATH FROM FALL With his neck fractured, apparently from a fall from the front porch of his residence, the body of Charles Horne, 64-year-old Napa pioneer, was found Sunday morning in front of his cabin on the La Rue ranch near Yountville. Coroner Theodore S. Treadway was summoned to the scene and after making an investigation of the matter held an inquest last night which returned a verdict stating that "the deceased came to his death from a broken neck sustained when he fell... "NAPA PIONEER MEETS DEATH FROM FALL With his neck fractured, apparently from a fall from the front porch of his residence, the body of Charles Horne, 64-year-old Napa pioneer, was found Sunday morning in front of his cabin on the La Rue ranch near Yountville. Coroner Theodore S. Treadway was summoned to the scene and after making an investigation of the matter held an inquest last night which returned a verdict stating that "the deceased came to his death from a broken neck sustained when he fell from the porch of his residence." Mr. Horne was born in the Napa Redwoods and was the father of the following children: Kenneth Horne, Napa; Stanley Horne, Oakville; Harry and Ralph Horne, Veterans' Home; Dan Horne, Vallejo; and Mrs. Emily Thomas, San Francisco. His wife passed away some years ago. Mr. Horne was the brother of William W. Horne of Napa; Mrs. Emma Harris of Oakville; Mrs. Silesta Bassett, Lodi; and Mrs. William Lake, Santa Cruz. Thomas Clark of Yountville is a stepbrother and Mrs. Lily Porterfield of the Veterans' Home and Mrs. Dan Campbell of Huntington Park are stepsisters. There are also three grandchildren in Yountville. The remains are at the Treadway Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Interment will be made in Yountville Cemetery." - The Napa Journal (July 26, 1927)
