Clarke died suddenly at the St. Helena Sanitarium Friday morning, after being stricken the evening before. He and his wife had driven from their home in Yountville to attend graduation exercises, at the St. Helena elementary school, of James Elbert Clarke, their grandson. Read More	Obituary "Prominent Yountville Rancher Dies Suddenly Funeral services were held for Thomas Anthony Clarke, 63, father of James Clarke, of St. Helena, last Monday morning from the Treadway chapel in Napa. Clarke died suddenly at the St. Helena Sanitarium Friday morning, after being stricken the evening before. He and his wife had driven from their home in Yountville to attend graduation exercises, at the St. Helena elementary school, of James Elbert Clarke, their grandson. After driving to the home of their son, at the close of the exercises, Mr. Clarke was stricken with a recurrence of a heart ailment which had attacked him the preceding Sunday. He was removed to the Sanitarium in the Morrison ambulance, but failed to rally, and succumbed shortly before noon the following day. Pallbearers were Sheriff Jack Steckter, Silvio Tonascia, Fred Grigsby, Jack McDermott, Carl Graham, Sam Webber. Officiating was Rev. Alan Goozee, of the Methodist church in Napa. Soloist at the last rites was Mrs. Hazel Brown. Interment was in the Yountville cemetery. Deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Clarke, three sons, James Clarke, of St. Helena, Willis, of Vallejo, and Milton, of Yountville, and one daughter, Mrs. Bruce Fraser, of Napa. There are eight grandchildren. Clarke was born at Dry Creek, and after attending the Oak Mound school in Napa, engaged in farming and general ranch work. For some years he had been a county road foreman, and even after his serious attack the Sunday previous, insisted upon returning to work the following day.
