Description	:	Aug. 22, 1862 he was married to Sarah Goodwin in Lapeer co. Michigan who passed away in January 1907 at the home of their son Elmer in California. To this union were born eleven children, six boys and five girls. There are left to mourn his loss, five children, Nora Clayton of Norfolk, Neb., Hervey Pemberton of Palmer, Neb., Virgil of Sioux Co. Neb., Elmer of Sacramento, Cal., and Everett of Oakland, Cal; one brother Jasper of Blue Jacket, Okla., five sisters, Mrs. T. N. Gosnell and Mrs. M. L. He enlisted in the tenth Michigan Cavalry, Aug. 1863. The last three months of the war he was in Libby prison. In June 1872 he with his family moved to Merrick county, Neb. where he lived until eleven years ago. Since that time he resided in Lincoln, where he was a member of the G. A. R.
