The home of John Knott has been visited with a great deal of sorrow within the past few weeks and the sympathy of the entire community goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Knott in their crushing grief. A couple of weeks ago they buried their little 3-year-old daughter. In a few days after their little son, Charlie, was stricken with diphtheria. His was the most pronounced case of that dread disease that has made its appearance here this winter. Patches of membrane of diphtheretic growth as large as a silver dollar were removed from the little fellow's throat, and the disease seemed to have almost entirely succumbed to medical treatment, when that most appalling of all diseases of children, membranous croup set in Monday evening. This was too much for the poor, pain-racked little sufferer and he passed away about 1:30 Tuesday morning. Had little Charlie lived until the 29th of January he would have been 5 years old. On account of health regulations regarding contagious diseases, the funeral was held from the residence Wednesday morning, after which mass was said at St. Mary's church by Father Roche. __ col. 4 The only remaining child of Mr. and Mrs. John Knott is a little girl aged about 7 years. To prevent her from taking diphtheria, she was immunized with anti-toxin by Dr. French the first of the week. The doctor keeps a supply of anti-toxin on hand all the time.
