Married Catherine Graf on July 9, 1887 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Center Township, Butler County, Nebr. `````````````````````````````` People's Banner (David City, Nebr.), November 15, 1900, p. 5, col. 4 John Knott departed this life at his home a mile and a half east of town, Monday, November 12th at 6:30 p.m. from lockjaw, after ten days of severe suffering from the effects of running a rusty nail in his foot, Friday morning, November 2nd. Dr. Breuer rendered all possible medical assistance, and Mr. Knott was getting along nicely until Thursday of last week when symptoms of lockjaw set in. Monday morning he showed symptoms of improvement and the physicians and those in attendance had considerable hopes of his recovery, but as the day wore on he grew worse until about 1 o'clock, when he became unconscious, remaining in an unconscious condition until he passed peacefully away. His suffering was severe until almost the last. The funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Wednesday, Nov. 14, at St. Mary's church, at High Mass, Rev. Father Roche being celebrant of the Mass and preaching the funeral sermon. Remains were laid to rest beside three of his children in the Catholic cemetery, south of town. Mr. Knott was born in Germany Nov. 24, 1859, being nearly 42 years of age. He came to America and located in David City in June 1883. He was engaged in the butcher business in David City for a number of years and was well known and highly respected. His public and private life was honorable and upright. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and a friend to nearly every one. Deceased leaves a wife and three children and a brother Henry, who resides here, to mourn his untimely departure. He also had a sister in a Convent in Denver. The bereaved ones have the sincere and heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of warm and sympathizing friends. May the Father of all comfort them in their affliction and the soul of the departed rest in peace. ``````````````````````````` Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), November 13, 1900, p. 3, col. 2 DIED OF LOCKJAW The sad intelligence reached us this morning that John Knott died last night of lockjaw. Sometime ago he ran a nail into his foot, which kept getting worse in spite of medical skill. It is too early to announce funeral arrangements. John Knott was a good citizen, and gentle, genial man -- a good husband and father, and it seems hard that such men should be cut down in the midst of their usefulness. ___________ November 16, 1900, p. 3, col. 2 In Memoriam In view of the late sadness that has befallen our sister and neighbor, Katie Knott, occasioned by the death of her husband, John Knott. Be it therefore Resolved, That we, as the officers and members of David City camp, 1356, Royal Neighbors of America, tender our sister Katie Knott, our heart felt sympathies in this time of bereavement and sorrow. Resolved, That we as officers and members of above camp and lodge will spare no pains and inconvience to alleviate as far as possible the darkness which now hovers over her home.
