Description	:	As a businessman, Charley had been known along Main Street for 53 years. He started work with the Chanute Daily Sun newspaper in 1903, working for Fred Cone, veteran printer and publisher of the Sun. When the Sun was purchased by the Caveness Brothers, the Sun was consolidated with the Chanute Tribune. Charlie worked for the new paper for two years. After graduating from Chanute High School in 1909, He worked for five years with the Peoples Home State Bank and then later became cashier of the Fidelity State Bank for 10 years. ... After graduating from Chanute High School in 1909, He worked for five years with the Peoples Home State Bank and then later became cashier of the Fidelity State Bank for 10 years. He next was employed a year at the Humboldt State Bank at Humboldt, Ks. The following year he purchased the Dimick Insurance Agency in Chanute where he remained until retirement in November of 1958. He sold the agency to his good friend Ed Bideau, the Edwin H. Bideau Associate Agencies in November of 1958. The following was on the editorial page of the Chanute Tribune: Through many years, the people of this area always found that dealing with C.C. DeBolt, the insurance man, was a pleasant experience. He had the punctuality of a clock, the exactness of an accountant, the reliability of a Gibraltar. He was observant, friendly and always to the point. He also had his own firm convictions, as typified by his service on a jury a number of years ago. It was a civil suit and the jurors sharply disagreed on a verdict for damages. DeBolt reached his own conclusions. Two other jurymen joined him in them, holding out against the majority. Rather sadly, a hung jury reported to the court and was dismissed. When the suit was returned to trial, the side that DeBolt held out for won the case. Of course, with his qualifications and record for service, DeBolt was busy. His business was regarded for a long time as one of the leading insurance agencies. Satisfied customers meant repeat business to an insurance man and DeBolt had his full share. Poor health led to his retirement from active business life, but DeBolt's associations on Main Street couldn't be soon forgotten. And on the sad occasion of his death, many are reminded of the many pleasant contacts they had with Charlie DeBolt, both as a businessman and a friend.
