Description	:	Charles Coastsworth Pinckney Prior was the son of Simeon (1754-1837)and Katharine Wight Prior (1763-1838). He married Harriet Ameilia Latham on 16 Jul 1826 in Mercer Co., PA. This obituary was copied from the Miles Reporter--25 January 1879 Died---At the residence of his daughter, Mrs. E. S. Hatheway, January 17, 1879, Charles C. P. Prior, age 79 years 11 months & 15 days. Another of the good old settlers of Jackson Co. has been gathered with the "weary who are at rest." Mr. Prior came to Iowa in 1851, and lived for several years on the land now owned by FM. Miles. His residence has been at Van Buren for over 20 years. His first wife, the mother of Mrs. Hatheway, S. Prior and Mrs. Welsh, died in 1849, and in 1857 he married Mrs. Lawrence of Sabula, who died four years afterward. In 1863, he was married to Mrs. Hall of Camanche, Iowa, who is now left to mourn the loss of a true and devoted husband. During the absence of Mrs. Prior visiting friends in Chicago, the old gentleman took the occassion to visit his children, and came to Mrs. Hathaway's some five weeks previous to his death. After spending three weeks of social intercourse, recalling with unusual accurracy the many pleasant scenes of the long years agone, he was taken ill with lung fever, which initially assumed a typhoid form and soon the destroyer's work was done. Mr. Prior was a quiet, unassuming, upright man, highly respected in the neighborhood in which he lived, and loved by all who knew him. During his illness he gave abundant assurances of his faith in God and his readiness to pass "beyond" and realize the full fruition of the meek "follower'd" reward in an endless eternity. The funeral was attended in Miles by a large number of relatives and friends. The services were conducted by Rev. N.A. Kimball, assisted by Rev. Coates. His remains were interred in the Preston grave yard." He was the father of seven known children: Eunice Cordelia, Caroline A., John Seabury, Fadelia Fanny, Charles Chester L., and Albert D. Prior.
