Read More	Obituary: The Guthrian - July 23, 1885 Died in Bear Grove township, Guthrie county, Iowa, July 19, 1885, Mr. Gurden Prior, in venerable age and a pioneer citizen of this county. The deceased was born in Massachusetts, September 17, 1793. At the time of his death he was aged 91 years, 9 months and 22 days. He was born but ten years subsequent to the close of the Revolutionary War; the Constitution of the United States was formed but four years before his birth, so that his life covered almost the entire history of the country. His parents moved to OH, settling in the Western Reserve in what is now Summit county in 1802, the year in which that state was admitted to the Union. In the then almost unbroken forests of Northeastern OH, Mr. Prior grew to manhood. In that region he lived through the last war with Great Britain. From Summit county he emigrated in '53, coming to Iowa and settling in Jackson county from whence, in the early summer of 1856, he came westward and settled in Guthrie county, June 7th, locating in Bear Grove township, where he has since resided. In mature manhood he was united in marriage to Hannah Bates and to them both were born ten children, five of whom survive the parents; three of the five are well known here, namely Messrs. E.L. Prior, and Joshua Prior and Mrs. Millhollin; two of the five both daughters, reside in Jackson county this state. His wife lived to a ripe old age, leaving him bereft about three years ago. Since his bereavement he suffered almost entire blindness, but his memory was vivid and he was happy in recalling past events. He was buried Monday in the cemetery near Bear Grove village. War of 1812 Veteran Served as Private in Capt Amos Lusks Co., Infantry, OH Militia 22 Aug 1812 to 30 Nov 1812. Also served 1 Jan 1813 to 9 Mar 1813 . (pg 142 OH Roster) He was issued Warrant 21422 for 80 Acres NE 1/4 SW 1/4 & SE 1/4 Nw 1/4 Sec 14-79N,33W. Deed & Patent Record 107 Guthrie Co. Recorders Office Warrant:2214227 & 40524.
