He was born December 31st, 1816, in Webster, Massachusetts, and moved to Clinton county, Iowa, in 1861. He enlisted in the Union army in 1862 and served three years. At the time he enlisted he was 46 years of age, but love of country prompted him to the front. He was married to Lucy Slack June 10, 1836, at Stonington, Connecticut, his wife passing to her reward about a year ago. He was the father of thirteen children, six of whom are now living. They are: Mrs. J.S. Carter of Des Moines, Mrs. F.A. Warrick of Norfolk, Nebraska, Mrs. O.A. Johnson of Auburn, California, C.D. Corbin of Carrollton, and S.E. Corbin of Auburn, California. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Percy at Carrollton, Tuesday, February 4th, at 1 p.m, the remains being laid to rest in the Carrollton cemetery. Grandpa Corbin will be missed by all that knew him, as he made friends of every one he met and was a very interesting gentleman. The relatives have the sympathy of all. (Carroll Herald, Carroll, IA, February 5, 1902) Obituary Charles Corbin whose serious illness we noted last week, passed away Sunday evening about six o’clock. Mr. Corbin was born in Massachusetts December 31st, 1816. He was married in 1836 to Lucy Slack, whose death occurred about a year ago, after a married life of 63 years. They were the parents of eleven children five of whom are still living, three daughters, Mrs. Carter, Mrs. Warrick, Mrs. Johnson, and two sons, S.E. and C.D. Corbin. One son, Herbert, died from wounds received in the army. Mr. Corbin came to Clinton Co., Iowa, in 1861 and enlisted in the 26th Iowa Infantry in 1863, serving three years in the army. In 1878 he came to Carroll county where he has since lived on his farm south of Carrollton. Mr. Corbin has shown pluck and energy in conquering the obstacles which beset the early pioneer. His was an honest and rugged character, kind hearted and sympathetic, he held the respect and esteem of his neighbors who join with his family in mourning their loss.
