Description	:	C. D. Bennett, one of Delta's most substantial residents, passed away at his home shortly after noon, Tuesday, November 17, after a short illness of about ten days. Mr. Bennett had been in poor health however, for some months, suffering from ulcers of the stomach, and had been treated in recent weeks at the hospital in Oskaloosa, at which time there was grave concern relative to his condition. Bennett, one of Delta's most substantial residents, passed away at his home shortly after noon, Tuesday, November 17, after a short illness of about ten days. Mr. Bennett had been in poor health however, for some months, suffering from ulcers of the stomach, and had been treated in recent weeks at the hospital in Oskaloosa, at which time there was grave concern relative to his condition. He recovered to all outward appearances and had been making his daily trips down town until Sunday, November 8, when he was confined to his bed. C. D. Bennett was born Feb. 13, 1864, the son of Richard and Campbelle (sic Camelia) Smillie Bennett, and would have been 73 years old his next birthday. He was born at Hedrick, Iowa, and has lived his entire life, with the exception of several years in Wyoming, in Keokuk County. After leaving Hedrick he moved to Sigourney and after a few years residence there move to Delta in about 1907. He leaves to mourn his departure a son, Ned B. of Los Angeles, Calif., three daughters, Mrs. Earl McMullen of Delta, Mrs. L.A. Reynolds of Los Angeles, California and Mrs. Ralph Eastburn of Delta, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. John Bennett of Bremerton, Washington, one sister, Mrs. Ida Meier and a brother, R. A. Bennett, both of Hedrick, also ten grandchildren. Two sons and a daughter have preceded him in death, Emily and Rees dying when small and John of Bremerton, Washington seven years ago. Mr. Bennett united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in early life while a resident of Hedrick. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Easter Star. He was known to all as a true friend and will be greatly missed not only in the home but by all his associates. He was kindly, congenial disposition. He was young at heart and a real pal to his grandsons and the small boys of the neighborhood who loved to congregate in the home. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, November 20, 1936 at the Delta Methodist Episcopal Church 2:30 conducted by the Rev. E. L. McClure, pastor of the church. Interment was made in the Springfield cemetery. Masonic services were conducted at the grave with H. F. Wagner of Sigourney in charge. Sigourney Review Nov. 25, 1936
