Read More	Charles Dean Combs was born to Glen Combs and Ruby (Peterman) Combs of Feb. 26, 1930, at New Market, Iowa, and passed away Sept. 30, 2001, at the VA Hospital in Omaha, at the age of 71 years. He was one of 7 children in the family. Dean and his family lived in the small community of Gravity, Iowa, in Taylor County. He attended a country school until eighth grade in Lodoga, Iowa. he and his family later moved to Stanton, Iowa where he graduated from high school in 1948. After graduation, he worked for H. M. Orr, a local livestock buyer and trucker. He transported livestock from New Market, Iowa, to St. Joseph, Mo., Kansas City, Mo., Texas and California. In 1951, Dean enlisted in the Mariens. After basic training he spent 13 months in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged from the service in 1953. After being discharged, he served six years in the inactive reserves. He returned to work with H. M. Orr in New Market, Iowa driving a truck. In 1953, Dean married Winnifred Brookes. They made their home in New Market, Iowa. They had six children. In 1960, Dean and his family moved to Vancouver, Wash. From 1965 to 1975, Dean worked for a road construction company building Interstate 5. Dean then went to work for BLM Roads out of the mountains from Oregon to Washington. Dean married Elaine Hansen in 1973. She had six children of her own. Elaine helped many people while she was a drug and alcohol counselor. They made Vancouver, Wash. their home, until they moved in 1976 to Scottsbluff. Dean worked for Lockwood Company and Arthur Smith and Son Trucking, where he traveled the United States from coast to coast. In 1992, Elaine passed away. Dean moved from Exeter to Omaha for a year. He moved into the Harmony Court in Bellevue in December of 1994. While at Harmony Court, Dean enjoyed playing cards, visiting and watching television. He especially enjoyed game shows, westerns and sports. Dean also enjoyed having his meals prepared for him and not having to worry about doing housework. Dean is preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Ruby Combs; brothers Darryl and Allen Combs and sister, Dorothy French. He is survived by his sons, Terry, Bill, Ricky and Danny; daughters, Nancy Unger and Sally West; sisters, Carolyn Rodaway, Marjorie Carlson and Irene Brown; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter on Wednesday, Oct. 3, with Father Kenneth Borowiak officiating. Musical selections for the service were "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art." Casket bearers were Terry, Ricky and Danny Combs; Wayne, Robert and Randy French. Interment was in the Exeter Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal Sept. 2001
