On Feb 12, 1924, he was united in marriage to Ruby Peterman, also of New Market. Seven children were born to this union; being Mrs Richard (Dorothy) French of New Market; Mrs Roy (Carolyn) Rodaway of Nickerson, Neb; Mrs Marvin (Marjorie) Carlson of Stanton; Dean of New Market; Darrell and Mrs Ronald (Irene) Norris, both of Burlington Junction, and Allen, now serving in the U.S. Navy. Mr and Mrs Combs spent their entire lives in the New Market vicinity, with the exception of four years at Stanton, Ia, and the past three years at Burlington Junction. Some 18 years ago Mr Combs suffered an illness from which he never recovered. For several years, he tried to carry on with his chosen vocation of farming, but his condition gradually grew worse until he became a semi-invalid, and for the past three years has been bedfast. He accepted his disability without bitter complaint and tried to assume a cheerful outlook on life. Through the long years he was tenderly cared for by his faithful companion, who did all in her power to add to his comfort and alleviate his suffering. Glenn was a good neighbor, took an interest in community affairs and of his friends, and always had the welfare of his family at heart, as long as he was physically able to do so. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Lena, Pearl and Velma. He is survived by his companion, their seven children, 10 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs Arnold Bashor of New Market; three brothers, John of New Market, Harry of Gravity, Dewey of Clarinda, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Friday Jan 15, at 2 pm at the Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda, with the John Batchelor of the Burlington Junction Methodist Church in charge. Pallbearers were Cleo Batten and Carrol Ingram of New Market, Lawrence Ingram of Gravity, Charley Young of Guss, Irvin Nelson and Marvin Peterson of Stanton. Mrs Douglas Hill was organist for Doug Hill of Burlington Junction who sang "No Night there" and "Beyond the Sunset." Burial was in the Old Memory Cemetery at New Market, Ia.
