He was born November 26, 1925 on Thanksgiving Day at the family ranch 19 miles north of Wray. He was the fourth child born to Fred Lee and Flora Ella (Pendleton) Sheridan. Sheridan grew up on the ranch through the depression, attending Sunnyside Country School and graduating from Wray High School in 1943. Upon graduating, he was drafted into WWII where he served from February 29, 1944 to May 12, 1946, going into the Battle of the Bulge and serving in the occupation and takeover of a concentration camp. After his honorable discharge, Sheridan returned to the ranch for a time and then went to college at CU in Boulder. However, he wasn't to finish. After his first quarter of studies toward engineering, he got a call from his father to come home and help get the harvest in, and he never returned to college. Charlie married Masyl Lorraine Schellenberg on July 6, 1947 at the First Baptist Church in Holyoke. The couple had 53 years together before Masyl's death on October 6, 2000. They spent most of their married lives on the ranch homesteaded by Charlie's dad Fred. Charlie and Masyl had six daughters: Barbara Louise Sheridan Jones, Joyce Marie Sheridan, Masyle Charlene Sheridan, Mary Kathleen Sheridan Engle, Tracy Lynn Sheridan Gallegos, and Marjorie Sue Sheridan Jarrett. Sheridan was a member of R-CALF (Ranchers Cattlemen's Action Legal Fund). He was a longtime member of the Farmers Union, Holyoke Coop, Great Plains Coop, Rural Electric Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a DAV (Disabled American Vet). Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Masyl, two daughters Masyl Charlene Sheridan and Tracy Lynn Gallegos; his parents Fred and Flora Sheridan; sister Marjorie Herrin; brothers James Oliver Sheridan and Fred Jean Sheridan; mother-in-law Millie Schellenberg and father-in-law Henry Schellenberg. He is survived by daughters Barbara Jones and husband Dave, Joyce Sheridan and her daughter Tykiera Jo Drummond, Mary Engel and husband Frank; son-in-law Pat Gallegos and his children Jeffrey Sheridan Gallegos, Tonya Marie Gallegos and Patrick Lynn Gallegos; Sue Jarrett and husband Dean and their daughters and Masyl Charlene Jarrett, Deanna Marjorie Jarrett, Sadie Lynn Jarrett and several great-grandchildren and their spouses. Charlie is also survived by one brother Lee Sheridan and his wife of Eads; sister-in-law Wilma Sheridan of Lakewood; brother-in-law Lyle Schellenberg and wife Cathie of Lake Stevens, Washington and sister-in-law Lois Welton of Oregon, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Funeral services were held Friday, November 9, 2001 at the United Methodist Church in Wray with Rev. Merlene Barner officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Memorial Park.
