Description	:	Sterling-Charles E. "Bert" White, 90, Sterling, died on Monday, Sept. 9, 1996. He was born on Nov. 16, 1905, at Almena, Kan., and as a small child, he and his family moved to Nebraska. He attended elementary school near Adams and later consolidated school at Dawson. He then lived near Springfield, Mo., for five years , where he was employed in road maintenance. He married Lena Walters on Jan. 24, 1939, at Nebraska City, and they lived and farmed at rural Sterling until the spring of 1987, when they moved into Sterling.... Read More	Sterling-Charles E. "Bert" White, 90, Sterling, died on Monday, Sept. 9, 1996. He was born on Nov. 16, 1905, at Almena, Kan., and as a small child, he and his family moved to Nebraska. He attended elementary school near Adams and later consolidated school at Dawson. He then lived near Springfield, Mo., for five years , where he was employed in road maintenance. He married Lena Walters on Jan. 24, 1939, at Nebraska City, and they lived and farmed at rural Sterling until the spring of 1987, when they moved into Sterling. He also worked at various kinds of construction and electrical work. When rural electrification first came to the Sterling vicinity in the 1940s, he wired many farms and homes for electricity. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Sterling, and a past member of the church council. He enjoyed numerous hobbies, especially music. His talent on the violin was enjoyed by many at community meetings and family gatherings. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed flowers and gardening. Survivors: wife , Lena; daughter , Charlene Blohm of Tempe, Ariz.; son Roger White and wife Janet of Adams; granddaughters , Debbie Wrenholt and husband Ron of Minneapolis, Minn. Rachelle Kienbaum and husband Kyle of Norfolk, and Gwendolynne Sheldon and husband Charles of Denver, Colo. ; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, John White and Paul White and wife Roberta of Salem, Ore. ; sisters, Pearl Wilson, Noami Goodwin and Oma Gregory and Husband Paul, all of Lebanon, Ore. and Zoe McCown of Salem, Ore.; neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Elizabeth (Garner) White; and a great-grandson, Gene Kienbaum. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, St John Lutheran Church, Sterling, Pastor Doyle Karst officiating. Burial: Sterling Cemetery. Family prayer service: 10:15 a.m. Friday, fellowship room of the church, Memorials established with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Giesmann in charge. Visitation: at Zink- Fox Funeral Home, Sterling, until 9 p.m. Thursday and then at the church one hour preceding services. Zink-Fox Funeral Home, Sterling.
