Turner was born to Earl James Turner and Sara Elizabeth Laycock on August 30, 1938 in Odessa, and passed away on June 26, 2006 at Bryan/LGH East in Lincoln, at the age of 67 years, 10 months and 26 days. Turner was born to Earl James Turner and Sara Elizabeth Laycock on August 30, 1938 in Odessa, and passed away on June 26, 2006 at Bryan/LGH East in Lincoln, at the age of 67 years, 10 months and 26 days. He was one of 10 children in the family. Charles grew up in Odessa where he graduated from high school. He earned a Master’s Degree in education and administration from Kearney State College. Charles participated in and coached several sports at the high school and college level. Some of his favorites included track & field, baseball, basketball and wrestling. He met his wife, Pamela, while they were both teaching in Kearney. Charles and Pam moved to Geneva in 1968 where he became the principal of Geneva Jr. /Sr. High School. With a career change, Charles began a construction business of McCreath and Turner Homes (MATH). The business designed and built several homes in the Geneva area. His final career move was becoming the Fillmore County Agency manager for Farm Bureau Insurance. He later began his own independent insurance agency, called New Frontier. His last years of semi-retirement were spent working with his close friends at Hilty’s of Geneva. “Charlie” was known to stop in quite often and visit even when he wasn’t scheduled. In his spare time, Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He belonged to the Elk’s and Lion’s Club, the Masonic Lodge and was a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church. Charles would never hesitate to tell people his favorite pastime was being with family and friends. Charles was especially known for his philosophical wit and one-liners. Among many that his children heard often were: “My wife and kids come first, me second,” and “can’t never did do anything!” After an extended illness, and courageous battle, he passed away peacefully with his family at his die on Monday morning. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Norvin, Harding, George and Jack Turner; sisters, Daphne Dazzo and Esther Turner. Charlie is survived by his wife, Pamela; five sons, Craig, Brent and wife Kelly, Aaron and wife Rebecca, Chad and Brandan,; grandchildren, Craig Turner, Jr., Danielle Turner, Derek Turner, Cheree Turner, Melissa King and Jennifer Daniel; great-grandchildren, Brandon Daniel and Clara Daniel; brothers , Leon and wife Virginia, and Robert and wife, Gloria; sister, Rita Scarborough and husband Jerry. Memorial services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva on Thursday, June 29, with Pastor Chris Lake officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied the congregation in singing “On Eagle’s Wings,” and “Because He Lives.” She also accompanied Delwin Myers, who sang “How Great Thou Art”. The recorded selection “I Can Only Imagine” was played during the recessional. Inurnment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal July 12th, 2006 page 12
