"Edgar Unger, well known La Porte City resident, met death Monday shortly after the noon hour at the residence of John Clark, 3 miles west of town. Mr. Unger had been assisting in shocking oats in one of the Clark fields during the forenoon. At the noon hour he complained of not feeling very well and ate but little dinner. He went out into the yard to rest on a blanket in a shady place at the conclusion of the meal. Mr. Clark passed by where he was sitting and exchanged a few words with him. After doing some work about the farm yard he returned to the house and discovered Mr. Unger lying on his face. When Mr. Clark turned him over, life was extinct. "The deceased had not been feeling as well as usual for some days and the heat of the day and his exertion in the field, were no doubt the cause of the acute dilation of his heart, which culminated in his death. "Undertaker H.E. Waldroff was summoned and brought the body to the undertaking parlors where it was prepared for burial and was then taken to his late home on Sycamore Street. "Charles Edgar Unger, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Unger, was born on the home farm in Benton County seven miles south of La Porte City, on June 5th, 1883, and was the oldest of four children. On March 1st, 1895, he came to town with his parents and was enrolled in the local school. He grew to manhood in this city and on January 16th, 1907, was married to Miss Bessie M. McQuilkin, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. T. McQuilkin. On March 1st, following, they moved to the Unger farm in Bruce township, where they lived for six years and then moved to La Porte City. Since then he has been employed the greater part of the time by the Iowa Canning Company in the local factory. Recently he had been working on farms and had been employed by Mr. Clark in painting buildings as well as in doing regular farming. ...
