Funeral services conducted by Rev. S. S. Rexroat of Grand Island, were held from the Methodist church in Scotia yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Rexroat and Maude McCall, also of Grand Island, sang. Pallbearers were Mr. Mikkelson, Alfred Stephens and William Stevens, all of Grand Island, and James Morrow and Hollie Chadwick. Internment was in the Scotia cemetery. Miller's Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements. Relatives present from out of town included Mr. and Mrs. Walter Keep and family of Alberts, Colo., Delbert Keep of Magazine, Ark., Mrs. Hattie Cook of Elk Creek, Mrs. Alice Unterkircher and son, Paul, of Kearney, Mr. and Mrs. Milo Johnson of Fremont, and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Snyder and Mr. and Mrs. Leland Johansen and family of Lincoln. ***************** Charles Edward Keep was born in St. Charles, Minnesota, November 7, 1857, and passed away at his home near Scotia, Nebraska, on August 20, 1939, at the age of 81 years, nine months, and 13 days. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. William R. Keep. At the age of 18 he took up the profession of school teaching and continued teaching until he moved to Fargo, North Dakota, in the year of 1881. Later he moved to Hanesville, Nebraska. On December 29, 1884 he was married to Mary Jane Mix. to this union was born 11 children: Charley B., of Cotesfield, Nebraska, Walter W. of Elbert, Colorado, Mrs. Alma Voorhees, of Scotia, Nebraska, Mrs. Alta Voorhees of Grand Island, Nebraska, Arthur R. of Scotia, Nebraska, Mrs. Alice Unterkircher, of Kearney, Nebraska, Mrs. Amy Phillips of Elbert, Colorado, Mrs. Gladys Reese of Los Angeles, California, Delbert L., pf Magazine, Arkansas, Paul G., who died in infancy, and Harold M., of Scotia, Nebraska. They and their two older sons moved from Hanesville, Nebr., to a farm south of Scotia, where they resided for 50 years. they lived in a sod house, later building the frame house in which they still lived. He was converted when he was 11 years old. whenever a church in his community needed him he was always ready. In later years he was affiliated with the Assembly of God church at Grand Island, Nebr. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife, 10 children, one brother, Jay Keep of Cotesfield, three sisters, Emma and Lydia of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Mrs. Lillie Palmer of Everette, Washington, 26 grandchildren, one preceding him in death, three great grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends.
