Keep, 88, died last Wednesday evening, Aug 29, in the Ord Hospital where she was taken earlier in the day after suffering from a heart ailment. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Scotia Saturday afternoon at 2:30 with the pastor, The Rev. Clarence W. Buehler, conducting the rites. Mrs. Clarence Sixel and Miss Ruby Clement sang "going Down the Valley, " "I Won't Have to Cross Jordan Alone," and "Gathering Home." Mrs. M. G. Williams was the organist. Internment was at Mt. Ashley's Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. ********************* Mary Jane Mix was born at Valley City, Clinton county, Iowa on April 25, 1868. At the age of nine she moved in a covered wagon, with her parents, to Holt county, Nebr., where they were pioneer farmers. On Dec. 29, 1884, she was married to Charles E. Keep. To this union, 11 children were born, five girls and six boys. On Oct. 6, 1889, she and her family moved to the Lamartine community south of Scotia where she made her home until February. 1948, when she moved to her home in Scotia. She joined the church at an early age and remained faithful to her church and her Christian faith throughout her life. Even during her old age, she seldom missed a service. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, and her greatest enjoyment was in making her family and friends happy. She was a great lover of flowers and her home and yard was always a colorful picture. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah and Charles Mix, seven brothers and sisters, her husband, Charles E. Keep, her son, Arthur, and another son, Paul Gerald, who died in infancy. She is survived by one sister, Harriet Cook of Nebraska City, nine children, Charles Keep of St. Paul, Nebr., Walter of Elbert, Colo., Alma Voorhees of Scotia, Alta Voorhees of Grand Island, Alice Unterkircher of Erickson, Gladys Reese of Los Angeles, Calif., Amy Phillips of Lakeside, Calif., and Delbert and Harold of Scotia; 28 grandchildren, and 39 great grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and many friends.
