Description	:	Charles Edwin McCoy, son of Mr. & Mrs William McCoy, was born in Ohio August 25, 1860, and died at Oskaloosa May 6, 1945. His parents emigrated from that Ohio home when he was a lad of 8 years and settled at Nortonville in this county. The rest of his life was spent here or near here. Read More	Charles Edwin McCoy, son of Mr. & Mrs William McCoy, was born in Ohio August 25, 1860, and died at Oskaloosa May 6, 1945. His parents emigrated from that Ohio home when he was a lad of 8 years and settled at Nortonville in this county. The rest of his life was spent here or near here. So we see him a pioneer Kansan, being in our country for 77 years. His first wife was Miss Sarah McKibben who was the mother of his 6 children. She passed away March 1, 1895. He was married again to Miss Etta Lambert, January 10, 1915, in the house where he died Sunday evening at 7 p.m. This has been their home for these 30 years. Mr. McCoy was variously engaged as mail carrier, owner of a livery stable in Nortonville, part owner of a store and funeral home, but mostly a farmer. These occupations in various parts of Jefferson County. For the past 28 years he was retired from strenuous living, residing these years in Oskaloosa. His living children are Clayton McCoy, Valley Falls; Mrs. C.H. Peebler, Colorado Springs; Joseph McCoy, Topeka; Mrs. A.B. Warner, Meriden. Three brothers survive him, W.B. McCoy, New Mexico; James McCoy, Kansas City; and George McCoy, Valley Falls. There are 9 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, two of whom are in the armed service. There was a family gathering attended by most of the members when the two grandsons were inducted into the service. This was in November of 1943. Mr. McCoy's interests were in his home, and in local and civic affairs. He was Justice of the Peace for many years and was court bailiff at the time of his death. He was a member of the Methodist church. When in good health, he was a regular attendant. He was secretary of the Men's Bible class for many years under various teachers. He will be greatly missed by the Court House group and by the older generation who knew him so well 20 years ago. Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist Church conducted by his pastor, Rev. Homer Wroten. Burial was made in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
