He was the son of the late Edward and Marie Cloney of Mt. Pleasant. Surviving him are: his wife, the former Jennie Cameron; one daughter, Marguerite (Mrs. John Hewson); two sons, Ray and Donald, all of Oxford; one sister, Mrs. Albert Mattinson of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, William, River Philip; and Daniel of New Annan. A son, Russell, died two years ago. ----------- NOVA SCOTIA Well Known Oxford Man Passes Away; Funeral Friday CHARLES CLONEY This community was deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Charles Cloney on Tuesday night. Mr. Cloney had gone to his cattle pasture on the Flat at South Oxford at about 7:30 that evening. He parked his truck on Water Street and when he did not return home, members of the family went In search of him. They found him lying in the pasture, apparently having passed away very suddenly. The body was discovered at about 9:15 p.m. He was 79 years of age. One of Oxford's best known citizens, Mr. Cloney was for many years a prominent farmer and lumberman. In the days before cars were popular, he operated a livery stable and made many trips to Western Canada, bringing home carloads of western horses which were sold to farmers throughout this part of the Maritimes. A native of Mount Pleasant, Mr. Cloney moved to Oxford 53 years ago and since then has been a prominent citizen of the town. He took an active interest in the community and served as a member of the town council for several years. He was a son of the late Edward and Maria (Dickie) Cloney of Mount Pleasant. He was married 53 years ago to the former Miss Jennie Cameron of Tatamagouche, by whom he is survived. Also left to mourn the loss of a devoted father are one daughter, Marguerite (Mrs. John Hewson), and two sons, Ray and Donald, all of Oxford, also one sister, Mrs. Albert Mattinson of Mount Pleasant, and two brothers, William of River Philip and Daniel of New Annan.
