Rowland, 76, Summoned; Here 45 Years Charles F. Rowland, 78, a resident of Grays Harbor county for 45 years, died at a local hospital last night after a short illness. He had resided at 522 West Second street. Mr. Rowland was born in Kendallville, Indiana, and in 1882 came to Hoquiam where he helped build the North Western Lumber company mill. He was employed as head sawyer in that mill for several years, but retired a number of years ago. Aside from his wife he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. W.H. France, Montesano; a son, C.H. Rowland, living in San Francisco, Cal.; two brothers in Lansing, Mich.; a brother in Tacoma; a sister in Vancouver, B.C.; three sisters in Tacoma. He was a charter member of the Hoquiam lodge No. 64, F. & A. M. He was a past master of this lodge. He was also a member of the DeMolay Commandery No. 6, West Shore chapter No. 13, of the Aberdeen Council Royal and Select Masters; of the Afifi Shrine, Tacoma, and of the Rhododendron chapter, No. 45, Order of the Eastern Star. Aside from these fraternal organizations he was a member of the Pioneers association of Aberdeen. The body was removed to the Elerding mortuary. Rowland, 76 years old, a pioneer resident of Grays Harbor, who died Sunday night in an Aberdeen hospital, was laid to rest in the Tacoma mausoleum Wednesday with Masonic services. Mr. Rowland was 45 years in Grays Harbor, starting at Hoquiam where, for many years, he was connected the Northwestern Lumber company. He retired 25 years ago and made his home in Aberdee. He was born in Kendallville, Ind., and came west in 1882. Aside from his wife, Delia, Mr. Rowland is survived by a daughter, Mrs. W.H. France of Montesano; a son, C.H. Rowland of San Pedro, Cal.; two brothers, Sherman and Jay of Lansing, Mich.; four sisters; Mrs. Jennie Hardy of Vancouver, B.C.; Mrs. Emma Townsend of Parkland; Mrs. Eunice Barber and Mrs. Matie Sample of Tacoma, and a brother, James Henry Rowland of Tacoma. He was a charter member of Hoquiam Lodge No. 64, F. & A. M., being past master of that lodge.
