With him at the time of his death was his wife, DeLeine Mittelsteadt Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Helmuth Mittelsteadt, Hadar, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Evans, Plainview. Evans, who was recently discharged from the Army, went overseas in September, 1944, going from Camp Bowie, Tex., to England. He later was sent to France where he bacame sick about a year ago. After being hospitalized in England for a number of weeks, he was returned to the states and sent to Fitzsimmons hospital at Denver. Surviving are his wife, 8 month old daughter, Sandra Kay; his parents and several brothers and sisters. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. H. H. Spaude. The body arrived Friday afternoon in Norfolk and was taken to the Home for Funerals. EVANS, 22 Many Persons Gather To Honor Memory of War Veteran Hadar, Neb.---Special to The News: The last rites for Charles Franklin Evans, 22, who died Thursday morning, Dec. 6 at 9:05 of Hodgkin's disease and complications, were conducted Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Mittelsteadt in Hadar and at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran church by the Rev. H. H. Spaude. In spite of the cold weather the church was filled to its capacity with friends and relatives. Floral offerings were many and beautiful. 1st ad funeral is held.. .. .. .. .. He was born March 12, 1923, near Norfolk, and later resided with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Evans on a farm near Plainview. He entered the service in February, 1943, receiving his basic training at Camp Hahn, Calif. He served with the 401st Ordnance Evacuation company. On Aug. 28, 1944, he was sent overseas and derved in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters of war. He was hospitalized from February until April 1945 in France. He also was hospitalized in England and from there was brought back to the states by plane to Mitchell Field, N. Y., April 14, 1945. From there he was taken to Fitzsimmons General Hospital at Denver. He was stationed at Camp Bowie, Tex., and New York before going overseas. On October 5, 1945, he was given an honorable C.D.D. discharge from service at Fitzsimmons hospital. Soon after his discharge he was again confined to his bed. On November 16, he was taken by ambulance to Lincoln where he was admitted to the Veteran's hospital, where he was given several blood transfusions. He died after three weeks in the hospital. With him when he died were his wife, parents and a sister. He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith by Mr. Spaude, who spent several days with the young man in the Veteran's Hospital. He was married July 3, 1944, to DeLeine Mittelsteadt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hellmuth Mittelsteadt in Hadar. The marriage was performed by Mr. Spaude. To this union was born one daughter, Sandra Kay. Only a few days before he was confined to his bed the young couple bought a home in Hadar. He is survived by his wife, 8 month old daughter, his parents, five brothers; Harold, James, Harry, Albert and Douglas, all of Plainview; five sisters, Mrs. Pearle Stuthman, Pilger; Mrs. Ida Boschult, Elsie May, and Peggy Ann, all of Plainview; two grandmothers, Mrs. Lillie Corbett, Persia, Ia., and Mrs. E. Carrico, Norfolk. Interment was in Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran cemetery north of Hadar. After the commital services, the American Legion, Post No. 72, Pierce, paid its last military honors to their fellow comrade. Charles Chilvers was the bugler and also presented the American Flag to Mrs. Evans. The firing squad fired three volleys over the grave. Pallbearers were three soldiers and three sailors, discharged veterans from World War I and II, William Koeppe, Eldon Steinkraus, James Bell, Oscar Prahl, Pierce, and Kenneth and Donald Leland, brothers who have just recently been discharged.
