Biography Funeral services for Pearl E. Stuthman, age 93, formerly of Norfolk, Nebraska, will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home, 901 North 13th Street, in Norfolk. Pastor Frank Brink will officiate, with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk. Pearl died Sunday, December 9, 2012, at Royal Springs Healthcare and Rehab in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pearl E. (Evans) Stuthman, daughter of Lloyd and Oma (Clyde) Evans, was born February 8, 1919, at Neola, Iowa. At a young age, Pearl moved with her family to Norfolk, Nebraska, where she attended grade school and high school in the Norfolk area. On June 20, 1937, Pearl was married the love of her life, Ernst Stuthman. Having grown up in the Christian faith as a Methodist, Pearl immediately studied and joined Ernst's church and spent her life as a Christian in the Lutheran Faith. Pearl and Ernst farmed as tenants near Wisner, Nebraska, then moved to Pilger, before settling on a farm south of Wisner, where they raised their two sons. Around 1964, Pearl and Ernst moved to Norfolk, where Ernst became one of the first employees of Vulcraft, eventually becoming one of their first retirees. During this time, Pearl worked for Gold Bond Stamps, and then in the kitchen of the Holiday Inn (now Norfolk Country Inn). Pearl dearly loved her family, sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and always cherished every moment she could spend with them. Pearl also came to love playing bingo, and it is thought that she probably played bingo six nights a week, every week, since the first night of living in Norfolk since returning from Wisner and Pilger. In about 1965, Pearl and Ernst began spending vacations and eventually winters in Las Vegas, Nevada, where one of their sons, his wife, and children lived. Both Pearl and Ernst loved Las Vegas, and they eventually found a home there to buy, but in the process of purchasing their new home and planning to move into it, Ernst became ill. Upon returning to Nebraska, it was discovered that Ernst had cancer, so he and Pearl decided not to move to Las Vegas. After Ernst passed away, Pearl continued to spend time in Las Vegas, and eventually the winter months, before moving there permanently. She enjoyed Las Vegas immensely, and particularly, that she could play six or seven sessions of bingo every day of the week. Besides the game, she loved meeting and socializing with nice people from across the United States, and literally, the entire world. Pearl enjoyed personal friendships from such countries as China, Columbia, Mexico, Germany, Korea, Taiwan, and many more. Pearl leaves to mourn her passing her sons, Eldon Ray Stuthman of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Las Vegas, Nevada, and Clifford E. (Kathy) Stuthman of Omaha, Nebraska; three grandsons, Jon "Tony" Stuthman and wife Lita of Norfolk, Terry Stuthman of Las Vegas, and Tim Stuthman of Elkhorn, Nebraska; three great-granddaughters, Katherine Stuthman of Norfolk, and Alycia A. Stuthman and Katylnn Stillwell; one great-grandson, Jacob Stuthman of Norfolk; and one sister, Peggy Ann Flesner of Plainview, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernst; two granddaughters, Jessica and Lydia; her parents; seven brothers, and two sisters. Per family request, memorials may be directed to the Carson Cancer Center in Norfolk, Nebraska.
