Feb 25, 1925 - Carroll Times - Funeral services for Charles Frederich Wegner, who passed away at the St. Anthony hospital from diabetis Thursday morning, January 29, at 3:30 o'clock after an illness of but a few days, were held at the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. F.G. Codd, pastor of the Baptist church, officiated. Special music was rendered by L.L. Shoemaker, E.F. Osburn, Rev. Ellas Handy and Clyde Bayliss. Miss Richard Hyatt presided at the organ. The pallbearers were Charles Parsons, George Guy, R.J. Hamill, John Carraher, Henry Stevens, and C.C. Helmer. Mr. Wegner was born in Germany March 22, 1860, and came with his parents to America when he was 9 years old. They located in Chicago, where the family resided until 1876, when they moved to Iowa, locating on a farm in Sheridan township. Most of the active life of Mr. Wegner was spent on this farm. He was united in marriage to Mary Britz, April 10, 1884, at Carroll. Eight children were born to this union, seven of whom are left with their mother to mourn the death of their father. The children are Mrs. C.H. Bliss, Carroll; Walter Wegner, Carroll; Will Wegner, Carroll; Mrs. Roy Sebern and Mrs. Hurley Sebern of Le Roy, Minn.; Carl Wegner of Minneapolis; Louis Wegner of Ostrander, Minn. All of the children were present at the funeral. In 1921 Mr. Wegner and family retired from the farm and moved to Carroll where Mr. Wegner purchased a large modern house, corner of Tenth and Main streets. During his residence in the city he made many friends, who will miss his friendly smile and greeting. While he had not been in good health for the last three years, he did not complain about his trouble, and to those who did not know of his ailment, he seemed to be enjoying good health.
