Description	:	Charles Frederick Townsend, 56, member of a Chelan pioneer family died Sunday, June 3, 1962. He was born in Chelan in 1905, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Townsend who were married in Wrightsville on Lake Chelan, in 1903. His father had come to the area in 1899. From 1903 to 1906, the family lived in Chelan where they were in the paint business. Read More	Charles Frederick Townsend, 56, member of a Chelan pioneer family died Sunday, June 3, 1962. He was born in Chelan in 1905, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Townsend who were married in Wrightsville on Lake Chelan, in 1903. His father had come to the area in 1899. From 1903 to 1906, the family lived in Chelan where they were in the paint business. Later they moved back to Rock Haven ranch where Charles Townsend spent the remainder of his life except for a brief period when he was employed at Holden. He attended classes in the one-room country school building, which is now the 25 Mile Creek Grange Hall. Charles Townsend was expert at many trades. He was a mechanic, carpenter, excelled in landscape work, made gunstocks, and was especially known for his knowledge of boat building. The Townsend's also had a vineyard. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1952; his father in the spring of 1956, and his sister, Beatrice Barkley in the autumn of 1956. Closest surviving relative is a cousin, Fred Sweeney of Santa Rosa, California. Funeral services for Mr. Townsend are being held at two o'clock this afternoon from the Rose Chapel with the Rev. J. J. Ellington officiating. Interment was in the Fraternal Cemetery with Smith Funeral Home in charge.
