The Muscatine Journal 1918-1960 (Muscatine, Iowa) · Tue, Mar 26, 1907 From Monday's Daily: Charles Goldsberry Barclay, a former resident of this city, passed away at his home in Kansas City, Saturday. Mrs W R Rice of Stewart Road, a sister of the deceased, residing in Muscatine, received word yesterday. The cause of his death was not stated in the brief message. He had been suffering for a number of years with rheumatism of the heart and it is thought that his death was due to the ailment of that organ. His condition was not serious and the news of his death will be a shock to his many relatives and friends. The deceased is well-known in this city, having lived here many years, during which time, he made a large circle of friends. He was the son of the late Dr Barclay and received his education in this city. He was born in Pennsylvania on August 21, 1854 and came to this state with his parents when three years old. They settled in Cedar Rapids and, after living there about a year, came to Muscatine. He spent his youth in and about Muscatine and after finishing school here went to Keokuk where he studied telegraphy. A short time afterwards, he secured a position as Telegraph Operator. He followed this business for a number of years, but later accepted a place as traveling salesman and was employed in this work at the time of his death. He was unmarried and has made his home in Kansas City for a number of years. He leaves a mother, Mrs Sarah A Barclay (note: his step-mother), one brother, William Barclay of New York City and 5 sisters: Mrs S G Hartman, Portland, OR; Mrs W R Rice of this city; Mrs Ralph Taylor of South Dakota; Mrs Harry Boiler and Miss Julia Barclay, living south of this city.
