Kimball, born May 2, 1953, on the former Kimball family ranch near Mizpah, died on Monday, March 3, 2014, at his home in Lewistown, Montana. He was peaceful and had family with him as well as all the caring staff and other residents of his home. Charles died of respiratory illness. Charles attended the rural Trail Creek School near the Kimball ranch, other public schools in Miles City, and the Custer County District High School. Charles was interested in many things and intensely so. He enjoyed talking deeply about subjects and also took part in different activities at the nursing home, and at times liked to try new things. He had interests ranging from his lifelong pursuit of sketching and drawing to subjects such as aliens, science fiction, understanding the unexplained like healing and miracles, yoga, philosophizing, eating for wellness, and star gazing. Charles was a gifted story teller, often citing pages from books, and recounting many tales of friends, family and years gone by. He had a wry sense of humor and a "mischievous grin" when he made a witty remark. In addition to living at the ranch and in Miles City, Charles lived in Great Falls, Helena, Warm Springs and outside of Lavina. We remember Charles for many things. His sister Cathy comments, "Charles taught her about linier perspective… and though she had a passel of teachers over the years, Charles is my all time favorite." His sister Cindy was inspired to go into a career helping those with mental illness and other struggles because of Charles. John, his younger brother, fondly remembers Charles pointing out constellations to him as well as some adventures they had together. And, his sister Cerie, always protective of her little brother, strove to make sure he was taken care of. She remembers pulling him in their red wagon when they were little. Each sister and brother had a unique kinship with Charles. He was a very special person. When you hear the song "Wonderin'" by Neal Young there is no mistaking that Charles is thought of ~ I've been walking all night long ~ My footsteps made me crazy ~ You've been gone so long ~ I'm wonderin' if I'll be alone. Another Young song, "Long May You Run" with its lyrics ~ We've been through some things together ~ With trunks of memories still to come ~ We found things to do in stormy weather ~ Long may you run. In passing, he joins his father Claude Kimball; his mother, Dorothy (Samuelson) Kimball; two siblings − a brother, Mitchell Anderson; and sister, Lucille Roberts. Left to cherish memories of Charles are his brothers, Allen Roberts and John Kimball; sisters, Cerie Kimball, Catherine (Kellie) Kimball, and Cindy Rawls. He is also survived by his nephews, Cherokee and Lakota Rawls; his niece, Chenoa Rawls, cousins and friends he made in his life. Charles' journey begins now without the struggles of mental illness or the bodily pains of his health issues. We will miss him, will always know his presence in who we are today and are thankful he can have peace of mind from here forward. We would like to thank the caring staff and residents of the Montana Mental Health Nursing Center. He seemed happier in his later years and felt he was "home." Our gratitude is immense! Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 1p.m. to 5 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.. Interment will follow at the Custer County Cemetery. The family, and anyone else who would like to attend, are invited to meet for an informal gathering at 2pm at Gallagher's Family restaurant.
