She was a longtime resident of Miles City before moving to Billings in 2000, where she resided at Sage Tower for nine years and most recently at the Eagle Cliff Manor, Billings. She was born Dorothy Samuelson in Milwaukee, WI and at the age of eight, moved with her parents Henry and Nellie (Ragen) Samuelson to Miles City. She graduated in 1971 from Miles Community College receiving an Associate's Degree in Business. Dorothy worked in Miles City at the VA Hospital, Clarks Upholstery Shop, C&R Cleaners and the Miles City Laundry. She actively participated in organizations to assist others: Parents Without Partners where she was editor of the monthly newsletter; bookkeeper at the Halfway House; Action for Eastern Montana advocate for people in poverty and the elderly; and secretary for the Miles City Singles. Dorothy was politically active in the Democratic Party and an ardent supporter for women's rights -- often traveling to the Montana State Capitol to testify in this regard. She loved reading, kaffe klatches and debating politics. Dorothy is an American Gold Star Mother giving many hours of volunteer work and personal service to veterans and their families (her son Mitchell was Miles Citys first fatality in the Viet Nam War). Dorothy is also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a women's organization for the descendants of individuals who aided in achieving American Independence. Her family wrote: Mom was a master seamstress, avid gardener, and talented artist. She played the accordion, organ and tripped the light fantastic for many years immensely enjoying dancing. As a widow, she raised 5 of her 8 children overcoming austere conditions and significant challenges while instilling the importance of education, helping those less fortunate and working hard. She persevered and her children rewarded her parenting with the accomplishments of four serving in the military, three receiving Masters degrees and one being a professional artist. Dorothy was a longtime member of the Miles City First Christian/Congregational Church and the First Congregational Church, Billings. Dorothy is survived by her daughters: Cindy Rawls (Troy Rawls, son-in-law), Billings; Catherine Williams (Dave Williams, son-in-law), Havre; Cerie Kimball, Alexandria, VA; and her sons: Johny Kimball, Miles City; Charles Kimball, Lewistown and Allen Roberts, Philippines. She is grandmother to Cherokee, Lakota, and Chenoa Rawls; Amy Kimball; and Mitchell Roberts. She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Lucille Roberts and Mitchell Roberts (Anderson); two brothers, Robert and Frank Samuelson; two husband's, Wilburn Roberts and Claude Kimball; and her long-time dear friend, Cliff Malone, Miles City. Dorothy will be dearly missed by family and friends, forever in our hearts and minds. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2010 from 1:00-6:00 p.m. at Stevenson& Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. A celebration of Dorothy's life for friends and family will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday May 24, 2010, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home, Miles City. Internment is at the Custer County Cemetery, Miles City, MT. Expressions of sympathy are accepted in lieu of flowers or should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. A special thank you goes out to Sage Tower, PACE and especially the wonderful staff at Eagle Cliff Manor for the excellent care they provided to Mom and their kindnesses to her family.
