Halloway OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, June 29, 1976 TRUMBO Charles Halloway Trumbo was born October 24, 1889 near Bethel Chapel in Clarke County, Ia. and died June 13, 1976 at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, Ia. He was a son of William Henry and Minnie Halloway Trumbo. He attended rural school in Clarke County and the Simpson Academy in Indianola when the family lived near there. Charlie and his brother, Harmon, started farming together near Murray in 1917. Soon afterward he was drafted to serve in World War I. He was in the cavalry stationed near Del Rio, Tex. at the time of the Armistice. He returned to Murray where he continued to farm until 1941. In 1927 he was married to Gladys Brown of Murray. Following her death in 1928 his sister Ruby and later his parents made their home with him until the death of his parents. During this time his young niece and nephews were his special delight and they enjoyed spending their vacations in his home. In 1941 he quit farming and went to live with his brother, Harmon and family near Chariton. On January 7, 1943 he was married to Louise Wilson of Corning, Ia. Their only son, Tim, was born May 10, 1945. They lived on their Wayne County farm near Millerton until they moved to Chariton in December 1973. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Glenn. Surviving are his wife, Louise of Chariton and son Timothy, of Phoenixville, Pa.; two sisters, Ruby Trumbo and Grace Trumbo of Canon City, Colo.; two brothers, Rolla of Midland, Tex. and Harmon of Chariton; three sisters-in-law, Jean Trumbo of Midland, Pauline Trumbo of Chariton and Mildred Trumbo of Western Springs, Ill. Also surviving are one niece, Charlene Meyer of Chariton and three nephews, Robert Trumbo of Trenton, Mich., Ronald Trumbo of Colorado Springs, Colo. and William Trumbo of Midland, Tex. and their families. Funeral services were conducted by Pastor James Nelson, at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 16, at the Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery. Obituary courtesy of Darlene Arnold
