Description	:	"Charles H. “Charlie” Schulz was born September 23, 1927 in Yutan, Nebraska to Hans Alvin and Bernice (Gertz) Schulz. He started school at 4 years old at District 35 at LeShara, and graduated from Valley High School 1944. He started school at 4 years old at District 35 at LeShara, and graduated from Valley High School 1944. As a young boy, Charlie was a paper carrier for the World Herald, getting up early every morning, rain or shine, to deliver papers on his bike. Due to his diligent service, Charlie was presented with a Master Carrier Award at a high school assembly, an event that brought him great pride. Charlie enlisted in the United States Army in August 1946 at the end of World War II. He spent 8 months stationed in Japan with the US occupation forces, before his honorable discharge in August 1947, holding the rank of Private First Class. When he returned to Valley after his military service, Charlie was baptized in 1947 at the Baptist Presbyterian Church. Charlie married Loretta “Tootsie” Sake on May 23, 1981 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Valley. He was proud of his ready-made family; Linda, Rick, and the grandchildren. He became a confirmed member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church on June 6, 1982. Charlie worked as a Printers Devil for the Valley Enterprise Newspaper, worked at the Popcorn Feed Mill in Valley and drove truck for Hunt Transportation. He retired from 3M as the stockroom coordinator and always said it was the best job he ever had. Charlie was a 60 year member of the Victory Lodge 310 in Valley. He had a deep love and appreciation for the river and wild life. Tootsie and he would drive down “deer road” to count the turkeys and deer. He loved his Nebraska Cornhuskers and going to the games with Tootsie. Charlie always enjoyed watching his grandkids and great-grandkids games and activities, and was proud of his family he shared with Tootsie. He was a very caring, wise and loving dad and grandpa. Charlie will be remembered as a kind and gentle person who liked to talk about the “good old days” he had in Valley. Charlie died on Friday, May 8, 2015 at the Golden Living Center-Valhaven in Valley, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 15 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Loretta, brother Melverne, son Rick Sake, son-in-law Jerry George, and brother-in-law Joe Bargar. Charlie is survived by his daughter Linda George of Valley, sister Lois Bargar of Fremont, NE, daughter-in-law Ruth Sake of Valley, 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Charles H. “Charlie” Schulz, age 87, of Valley, NE, died 5/8/15. Preceded in death by parents, wife Loretta, brother Melverne, son Rick Sake, son-in-law Jerry George, and brother-in-law Joe Bargar. Survived by daughter Linda George of Valley, sister Lois Bargar of Fremont, NE, daughter-in-law Ruth Sake of Valley, 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 11 AM Tuesday, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Valley. Private inurnment at a later date. Visitation 2-8 PM Monday with family receiving friends from 6-8 PM at the funeral home in Elkhorn. Memorials to the church or the Valley Fire & Rescue Squad."
