He had a heart attack, according to Wapello County Medical Examiner Dr. John Ritter. He was an employee of John Morrell & Co., for 34 years prior to his retirement April 28, 1961. The son of James and Caroline Hemm Breckenridge, he was born in Van Buren County April 25, 1896. He was a resident of Ottumwa 34 years. Mr. Breckenridge served overseas during World War I. He enlisted in the Army May 24, 1918, at Bloomfield and was discharged July 3, 1919, at Camp Dodge. He attended the Primitive Baptist Church near Eldon. He was a member of the West End Boosters and of the Veterans of World War I, Barracks No. 1510. His marriage to Rosa Thompson took place July 7, 1919, at Greentop, Mo. She survives as also do one son, Keith L. Breckenridge of Ottumwa, four daughters, Mrs. Alice Williams of Ontario, Calif., Mrs. Betty Goudy and Mrs. Wilma Peterson of Ottumwa and Mrs. Donna Wiggins of Hedrick route 1; 14 grandchildren; four brothers, George, Newt and Wesley Breckenridge of Eldon and Dewey Breckenridge of South Beloit, Ill. He was preceded in death by two brothers in infancy. The funeral will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel, with Elder J. Bryan Adair of the Des Moines River Primitive Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be fellow employees of John Morrell & Co.
