Description	:	Charles Hardy was a Civil War veteran, who enlisted in Penobscot County on December 26, 1863, at the age of 20. He was a Private in Company I, First Maine Heavy Artillery Regiment and was wounded at the Battle of Spotsylvania, Virginia on May 19, 1864. He was honorably discharged at General Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland on June 6, 1865. Charles Hardy was the oldest of four children. Read More	Charles Hardy was a Civil War veteran, who enlisted in Penobscot County on December 26, 1863, at the age of 20. He was a Private in Company I, First Maine Heavy Artillery Regiment and was wounded at the Battle of Spotsylvania, Virginia on May 19, 1864. He was honorably discharged at General Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland on June 6, 1865. Charles Hardy was the oldest of four children. He married Delia Pierce in 1869, followed ten years later by a move to Presque Isle in search of farm land. His parents and brother also moved to Presque Isle about the same time, where all worked as farmers. Hardy’s two young daughters were enumerated in Presque Isle in the 1880 census, but both died within the year. Hardy was an active member of his community. According to his obituary, "In all his various relations, as a citizen, as a neighbor and in his home, Mr. Hardy was a man whose life was most exemplary, and who enjoyed in a high degree the esteem and respect of all who knew him." Charles Hardy was a member of Wade Post, G.A.R. Joining the congregation for his funeral service were seven of his G. A. R comrades.
