Tann, father of Mrs. James Graham of this city, passed away at Abbott's hospital in Oskaloosa, Sunday morning at 3:45 from an operation due to cancerous condition of the bowels. Mr. Tann and wife removed to Oskaloosa from Seevers three years ago last April. He was widely known in this section, owing to his many years residence at Seevers. The news of his death brings sorrow to scores of friends and relatives, for he was a man who was well liked by all. Funeral services were held from the home in Oskaloosa, 614 North D Street, on Monday afternoon and the remains were brought to Prairie City by Train Tuesday and the funeral party by auto to Colfax where services were held at the Methodist church at 11:00 am Tuesday conducted by Rev. McFerrin of Oskaloosa, Scores of relatives and friends with the Miners' Union completely filled the seating capacity of the church. Interment was made at Oakhill, by the side of a daughter who preceded him in death several years. Charles Henry Tann was born in Lincolnshire, England, and died at Oskaloosa Sunday, Nov. 26, aged 69 years, 3 months and ten days. He came to America in 1883, locating in Boone county, later moving to Mahaska county, and from there with his family later moved to Jasper county. For a period of twelve years he lived at Seevers. The family surviving him are and aged wife, one son John Tann of Perry, Iowa; and six daughters: Mrs. Mary Blan, Valley Junction; Mrs. Will Suckett, Oskaloosa; Mrs. James Graham, colfax; Mrs. J. W. Lichtenheld, Oskaloosa; Mrs. Dorothy Westergreen, DesMoines: Mrs. M.H. Adey, Oskaloosa. Three brothers: John Tann of Brock, Neb., and George and Will Tann of England; six sisters: Mrs. George Barker, Mrs. Noah Barker of Seevers: Mrs Till Clarkson, Knoxville: Mrs. Libbie Hines, Mrs. Liza Story and Mrs. Dorothy Jackson of England; 20 grand children and 9 great grand children. _________________________________________________________ *NOTE: Aug 16,2011 Research by gggrandaughter Laural N. D. Cemetery records show the large stone with Charles & Susan Tann in Block 27, Lot 5, Sub-lot 3. BUT they are actually buried behind and left of the large stone (see photo's). Beside and north of the stone are two graves for children Sarah & Harry Setz. Behind their graves are two flat but slightly raised stones marked "Mother" and "Father".
