Charles Hundley (1768-1845) is named as one of the five Hundley grandchildren in the 1777 will of Peter Dupuy (Amelia County, VA Will Book 2 p 237). The will names five Hundley grandchildren: (1) Elijah Hundley; (2) Anthony Hundley [Jr]; (3) Charles Hundley; (4) Ann Hundley; and (5) Elizabeth Hundley. Anthony Hundley, Jr. served as a soldier in the Revolutionary Army in the Sixth Virginia Regiment (NARA publication M881 Roll 1009; Historical Register of Virginians in the Revolution p 403). He belonged to the 1st company commanded by Capt James Johnson and which had been raised in Lunenburg County, VA. He was on the muster roll at Valley Forge until his discharge in Mar 1778 serving in Weedon's 5th brigade under Capt. Billy H. Avery (http://valleyforgemusterroll.org/muster.asp). In Oct, 1787 Anthony Hundley made an oath that his son Elijah Hundley was the eldest surviving brother of Anthony Hundley [Jr] who died as a soldier in the Army and Elijah was thus entitled to the wages of his brother (Charlotte Order Book 7 (1786-1789) as referenced in Magazine of Virginia Genealogy (Nov 1987) p 21-22). The 1785 will of Judith Leferve Dupuy names only four Hundley grandchildren: Elijah Hundley, Charles Hundley, Ann Hundley, and Elizabeth Hundley (Amelia County, VA Will Book 3 p 219). Presumably, this is because Anthony Hundley [Jr] died as a solider in the Army. Charles Hundley's will was written Sep 30, 1845 and probated Dec 22, 1845 in Halifax County, VA (Will book 21 p 110-115). The will contains the following information about the seven children of Charles Hundley who each received a one-seventh share of his estate after adjusting for advances each received: (1) John Henderson Hundley (b 1796 in Halifax, County, VA d 1881 in Limestone County, AL); (2) Elijah Dupuy Hundley (b Sep 4, 1798 in Halifax County, VA d Jan 1, 1878); (3) Elisha Estes Hundley (b 1800 in Halifax County, VA d Jun 23, 1879 Keysville, VA); (4) Thomas Hundley (b abt 1797 in Halifax County, VA d abt 1855 in Hinds County, MS); (5) Henry Wilkerson Hundley (b Feb 5, 1815 d May 18, 1877 in Franklin County, MO); (6) Mary W. Harvey (b abt 1802); and (7) Elizabeth Dupuy Hooper (b May 17, 1806 d May 18, 1874 in NC). Many Hundley family trees say Charles Hundley married Ann Elizabeth Estes of TN in about 1794 and she died before her husband. None of these family trees specify a source. There is VA Chancery Court case 1811-002 on the Library of Virginia web site (http://www.lva.virginia.gov/chancery/). that involves the administration of the estate of Elisha Estes of Charlotte County, VA who died a few years before the plaintiffs filed their case in 1808. One of the plaintiffs was Charles Hundley and his wife Martha, formerly Martha Estes. There is a Virginia Deaths and Burial Record for Elisha Estes Hundley occupation trader age 79 who died Jun 23, 1879 in Charlotte County, VA (Ancestry.com on-line database). This record indicates that he was born about 1800 in Halifax County, VA and his parents were Charles and Martha Hundley. Charles Hundley is listed on a 1792 Halifax County tax record as living in a household with one white adult and with one house. There is a record of a "Reedy Creek" partition to build a grist mill by Charles Hundley in 1805 when he said he owned a tract of land on both sides of this creek (Halifax County Pleas 24, p 7). Charles Hundley is listed in the 1820 US Census as living in Meadville, Halifax, Virginia (NARA Publication M33 Roll 131 p 80). He is listed in the 1840 US Census as living in the North District, Halifax, Virginia (NARA Publication M704 Roll 560 p 12). Charles Hundley is connected to four Revolutionary War patriot ancestors all of whom received public service claims: (1) Peter Dupuy Sr. of Amelia County, VA; (2) Judith Leferve Dupuy of Amelia County, VA; (3) Elisha Estes of Lunenburg and later Charlotte County, VA; and (4) John Henderson of Orange County, VA, father of Mary Henderson who married Elisha Estes. Charles Hundley is presumed to be buried in the Hundley Family Cemetery at Old Christ Episcopal Church on route 746 north of Clover, VA. This is where his son Elijah Dupuy Hundley (b Sep 4, 1798 d Jan 1, 1873 in Halifax County, VA) is buried (per South Central Virginia Genealogical Society, Inc. database)..
