The Mount Pleasant Journal, Thursday, Feb. 06, 1890, page 2: Charles Leedham, one of our oldest and most respected citizens, died of paralysis at his residence in this city, Thursday morning, January 30th. Mr. Leedham was born in Washington County, Ohio, on November 12th, 1828, and came to Iowa in the spring of 1844, being only fourteen years old when he became a citizen of this state and settled in Henry county, and in 1855 he came to Mt. Pleasant and was married to Miss Rebecca Brown in 1849, with whom he has lived for forty-one years, raising a family of ten children, of whom three sons and four daughters are now living. He was a member of the city council from 1876 to 1880, filling the position with credit to himself and honor to the ward which he represented. In 1884 Mr. Leedham received a sunstroke, from which he never fairly recovered, and the supposition is that this was the cause of his death, which was paralysis of the brain, having suffered with brain trouble constantly for the last six years. He was a noble man, always ready to assist the needy and cheer the low spirited; and all who became acquainted with him were his friends. The funeral took place from his residence on South White street, Saturday afternoon, and was attended by a large number of his friends, who deeply sympathize with the family in this their sad bereavement in the loss of a kind, noble and generous husband and father."
