Description	:	Charles James Monroe, son of Hiram and Christena Hendrickson Monroe Jr was born August 23,1912 in Clermont Township near Castalia, Iowa. He died Monday, December 22,1997 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa. He had reached the age of 85 years,3 months and 29 days. He married Gladys Wilkinson April 19,1958, she died May 20, 1990. He attended a country school in Clermont Township and finished the 8th grade. Charles farmed the home place until the homestead was sold in 1945. Charles is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Hazel Tope, a stepdaughter Janice Finnegan, Stedell, La and four Stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Earl, Ambrose and George, and six sisgers, Abbie DeSotel, Goldie Holtzman, Iva Michel, Della Steffans, Florence Gutcher and Irene Nathem. Services were held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Waterloo with Burial at the West union Cemetery
