Packer of New York, Charles James Packer was born at Clermont, Ia. on Nov. 11, 1865. He moved with his parents to Diller, Nebr., in May of 1881. Here he grew to manhood. It was here he met and later married Miss Hattie M. Bradt on Sept. 20, 1887. Eight children were born to this union, one of whom died in infancy. A daughter died in 1918 at the age of 25 years. Mr. and Mrs. Packer moved from Nebraska to Mitchell county (sic), Kansas, where they lived for five years. Then they again returned to Gage county (sic). In 1920 they went to Republic county (sic), Kansas, purchasing a farm northwest of Belleville, and where Mr. Packer lived at the time of his death. Only a few days ago Mr. Packer suffered a stroke from which he did not recover. In the afternoon of November 22, he slipped away from this life. He had lived 67 years and 11 days. The death of Mr. Packer leaves a wife, the companion of the years; two sons, John J. Packer of Auburn, Nebr, and Ray Packer of Belleville; four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Allen of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Fred Iwohn of Clatonia, Nebr.; Mrs. Will Genrich of Beatrice, and Mrs. Floy Coons of Chester, Nebr. Also, there are two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Frisbie of Hereford, Texas, and Mrs. Maggie Grieder of Diller, Nebr., three brothers, Julius F. and Will H. Packer of Woodriver (sic), Nebr., and Dewey E. Packer, a half brother, of Indianola, la. Besides these, there are 18 grandchildren, and other relatives and friends who will miss his kindly care. The funeral was held from the home northwest of Belleville on Thanksgiving day. Rev. J. G. Roberts of the Methodist church in Belleville conducted the services. The body was laid to rest in the Chester cemetery.
