His age was 64 years, 8 months and 24 days. His mother, who nutured him in his youth, still lives, though an invalid, lovingly cared for by her daughter, Mrs. Mae Phillips. His father, Samuel Raffensperger, preceded him in death many years ago. His sisters, Mrs. U.S. Grant of Boone, Mrs. Mae Phillips and Mrs. Joseph Roushar of Victor, and Mrs. C. W. Lacy of Chicago, IL, remain to nuture the memory of a loving, devoted brother. On April 14, 1899, he was married to Anna Kempf, who, after a lingering illness, departed this life on Dec. 20, 1926, leaving her devoted husband, and three children, Orville Raffensperger, now of Des Moines, Bernice Raffensperger, now Mrs. C. D. McAninch of Victor, and Leonard Raffensperger, now of Waterloo. On June 26, 1929, he was married to Miss Hope Mason of Brooklyn, who remains to mourn the death of a loving husband, with memories of a happy and contented comradeship. Charles was in the hardware, furniture and undertaking business in Victor, practically all his mature life. He was in the same location 38 years. In recognition of his outstanding service as a funeral director, he was honored by being elected by his fellow morticians of the state of Iowa, as a member of the board of governors for the State Funeral Directors association. He was always active in promoting the welfare of the community. For many years he was a member of the board of education of the Victor public schools, and also its president. During the war, and since that time, he has been director of the Red Cross society in Iowa county. Due to his ever sympathetic interest in the moral welfare of young men, he organized the Victor chapter of the DeMolay and was for years active in sponsoring the activities of these young men. He was "Dad" to them. He was also a member of the Masonic and Eastern Star lodges, the Consistory and the Shrine, and a member of the I.O.O.F. and Knights of Pythias lodges. Burial services were held at the Methodist church in Victor. Rev. Dr. P. A. Johnson of Grinnell preached the funeral sermon and ably portrayed the worth of the life of the deceased. Rev. Royal J. Montgomery of Grinnell, assisted in the services by reading appropriate passages of scriptures, and Rev. O. J. Fix of Victor, offered prayer. Rev. C. W. Hempstead of Mitchellville, assisted in the services at the grave. ---------------------------------------------------- Charles operated a funeral home in Victor, IA. Children: Orville married Stella Louise Porter Bernice married Charles D. McAninch George married Mabel Leone Wiggins. George also was the head coach of the U Of I Hawkeyes in 1950 & 1951.
