Description	:	Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, Thu 26 Dec 1940: "Charles J. Welsh, 78, of 537 Columbia avenue, died this morning at Allegany Hospital, where he was admitted December 13. Mr. Welsh retired from employment with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1933 after nearly 54 years-of service. A native of nearby West Virginia, he spent most of his life in Cumberland. Mr. Welsh was a conductor for 45 years and worked on four divisions with never an accident. In March, 1932, he was presented with a 50-year gold service button. He began working for the B. and O. January 18, 1882. His wife, Mrs. Annie (Lavin) Welsh, died March 4, 1933. He was born November 27, 1862, and was a son of the late Patrick and Mary Welsh. Mr. Welsh was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, Cumberland Council No. 586, Knights of Columbus, fourth degree, and of the Brotherhood of Railway Conductors. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Mary Margaret Trant and Mrs. Helen Hopkins, both of Pittsburgh; Miss Virginia Welsh, 229 Cecelia street; four sons, Charles P. Welsh, at home; Edward V. Welsh, Annapolis; J. Howard Welsh, this city, and John (Jack) T. Welsh, Baltimore; a brother, Michael J. Welsh, who is 83, this city, and four grandchildren." Welch, 78, of 537 Columbia avenue, who died Thursday, were conducted this morning at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Interment was in the church cemetery. He was a retired Baltimore and Ohio Railroad conductor. The Rev. John A. Mountain, assistant pastor, was celebrant of the requiem high mass; the Rev. Dr. William E. Kelly, St. John's Church, Westminster, Md., was deacon, and the Rev. Francis J. McKeown, assistant pastor, was subdeacon. The Rev. Raymond Coleman, St. Peter's, Baltimore; The Rev. Benjamin Hopkins, St. Ambrose, Baltimore; the Rev. Raymond W. Bean, O. F. M.. Siena College, Loudonvllle, N. Y., and the Rev. Robert Kilgannon, St. Anthony's Ridgeley, were in the sanctuary. Active pallbearers were Ralph L. Keizner, Arthur P. Connell, Matthew J. Kearney, J. William Hunt J. Bernard Higgins, Elmo Conniff Honorary pallbearers were John E. McGraw, H. W. Fauver, T. W Murray, Robert A. Compton, James N. Yarnall, John W. McMackin Hlce R. LaughlLn, Thomas Kenney James Burns, Paul O'Donnell, Patrick Coyle, John H. Burns, Charles Flanlgan and Thomas A. Joyce."
