The fourth paragraph of this obituary appears to be in error and in total conflict with the preceding paragraph and the other information I have found. The third paragraph of his obituary states that he “had lived in Ottumwa for the last 30 years, coming here from Eddyville, where he had lived 23 years,” and this agrees with everything else I have found. The third paragraph of his obituary states that he “had lived in Ottumwa for the last 30 years, coming here from Eddyville, where he had lived 23 years,” and this agrees with everything else I have found. Paragraph four then states that he lived in Princeville 1914, when he was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Curry, and he then moved to Kewanee, Ill. Charles was born in Princeville, and from this paragraph, we would gather that he never left there until Jane died, that Jane died there in Princeville, and then Charles left and went to Kewanee. However, Charles and Jane were married on February 23, 1877, in Henry County, Illinois, and their son Alvia Mooney was born in 1878, in Kewanee, which is in Henry County, so they did live there for awhile after their marriage. By 1880, they had moved to Eddyville, Wapello County, Iowa. I have found no evidence that they returned to Illinois to live, and Jane died here in Wapello County. I do not know why this paragraph was put in the obituary, but other than the fact that Jane died in 1914, nothing else in it appears to be correct. Mooney, 82, Succumbs; Was Injured April 29; Lived in Ottumwa 30 Years. Charles L. (Dad) Mooney, 82, died in the Ottumwa hospital today at 2 a.m. He had suffered a fractured hip April 29 when he fell from the porch at his home, 516 South Ward street. He was taken to the hospital May 4. Mr. Mooney was born in Princeville, Ill., October 28, 1857, the son of John and Mary Mooney. He had lived in Ottumwa for the last 30 years, coming here from Eddyville, where he had lived 23 years. He lived at Princeville until 1914, when he was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Curry. He then moved to Kewanee, Ill. [sic] Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Eva Green; three sons, Frank, Alva and Walter Mooney of Ottumwa; 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Services will be held in the Brethren church, Wabash avenue and Moore street, Sunday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. C.A. Albin. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. The body will remain at the Lester Jay funeral home until Sunday noon. Members of the Modern Woodmen of American of which he had been a member, will serve as pallbearers.
