Description	:	Charles Leander Beers was born at Peninsula OH, near Akron, on the 24th day of November, 1868. He was at the time of his death 51 years, 6 months, and 3 days of age. Read More	Charles Leander Beers was born at Peninsula OH, near Akron, on the 24th day of November, 1868. He was at the time of his death 51 years, 6 months, and 3 days of age. He came to Montana thirty-five years ago, and started out for himself. He was a boy of sixteen at that time and he took up the labors of a miner in the then prosperous mining section of Helena He secured mining interests in that vicinity which he still retains, and which are quite probably soon to be worth considerable money owing to the new energy being shown in that section of the state in the silver mining business. During his early days in the state he worked at Helena, then made a short trip over to Bonners Ferry ID, returning shortly to Havre, where he was employed in one of the leading mercantile establishments there for several years, and where he was a very popular citizen Leaving Havre he went to Clancy, where he met and worked with George S Haynes, they coming here together in 1908. The firm of Beers & Haynes is known far and wide over the country as one of the strongest retail firms the state has ever known, and this after they have been out of business for three years. Never has Judith Gap had a more substantial or enterprising citizen than Mr Beers, and his loss will be enormous to this community. He leaves to mourn his demise, besides hosts of friends, his step-mother, Mrs Anna Beers, and two brothers, Henry and Lee, all of Peninsula OH, and his good wife here and eight children--seven boys and one girl, ranging in age from twenty-one years to but a few weeks. The children are; Charles Leander, Elmer John, Thomas G, William Stewart, Mable Eleanor, James Raymond, Robert Frank and baby Edward Floyd. He was one of the prominent Shriners of the state, being a member of Algeria Shrine, Helena, and of the Consistory, Butte. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias and Yeoman lodges, though all of his activities in lodge work were devoted to the Masonic order. For several months past he has been very active in securing a charter for a Masonic lodge here. The lodge is organized now, and is working under a dispensation, and they expect their charter any day now It will be known as Wheatland Lodge. To Charles L Beers more than to any other man is due the credit for the securing of the charter. When he and George S Haynes came here twelve years ago from Garneill, where they had been making their headquarters temporarily until the certainty of the division point on the new G N line through here could be learned. As soon as they knew that Judith Gap had been selected they began moving down here. As a merchant he proved an eminent success. Three years ago when they sold the business to Mr Holland, Mr Beers continued as postmaster, which office he had held for seven years before his demise, and the people of Judith Gap received such service at their postoffice as is given the public in but very few other places in the nation. Until the last three years, he has been making his home, with his family, on the ranch, a mile west of town. A part of this land he homesteaded when he came here and a portion of it he has purchased from the Great Northern. He was one of the first of the local men to go into the oil land leasing company here, now known as the Ubet Oil Co., and which promises to bring forth untold wealth for this community from the lands just north of the town. The rig is now being located on the ground for drilling. Hundreds of fiends will gather here at 2:00 pm on Sunday to pay final tribute to him, and it will be done most feelingly.
