Hyde, co-founder of Hy-Vee Food Stores, Inc., who died Sunday after an extended illness. He was 86. Services will be conducted from the RLDS Church in Lamoni with interment at Lamoni Cemetery. Mr. Hyde was born at Clearwater, Neb., where his father was a missionary for the Latter Day Saints Church. He came to Little Sioux with his family shortly before 1900. Started in General Store He and the late David Vredenburg became partners in the ownership of a general store in Kellerton in 1927 in what was then known as the General Supply Company. The partners added stores in Beaconsfield and Grand River and in 1932 established a store and headquarters at Lamoni. In 1938 the partnership was dissolved to be incorporated as Hyde and Vredenburg. Offices in Chariton The firm's headquarters, first located in Lamoni, was moved to Chariton in 1945 where an extensive office and warehouse complex is now located. The expanded number of grocery outlets became known as Hy-Vee Food Stores, a derivative of the co-founders' names. The firm presently operates 76 grocery stores in Iowa, Missouri and Minnesota and has three drug stores, with four outlets in Waterloo and Cedar Falls. Mr. Hyde remained active in company affairs until the early 1960s, serving as a member of the board of directors. Mr. Vredenburg died in 1948. Dwight C. Vredenburg, son of the co-founder, has served as company president since 1938. Survivors include his widow, Mabel, who lives in Lamoni, and three daughters, Mabel, Betty Ann, and Janice.
