Obituary for Charles Lewis Hoffman Charles Lewis Hoffman was born in Highland county, Ohio, January 27, 1859, and passed to the great beyond February 15, 1925, near Nelson, Nebraska, at the age of 66 years and 19 days. He came to Nebraska with his parents in 1877 and lived here until his death. Mr. Hoffman was married to Miss Rachael Hunt at Plattsmouth, Nebraska, in 1880. To this union were born nine children: Wesley, Ralph, Raymond, Mamie and Mabel are living; four have passed on before. Besides the wife and children, Mr. Hoffman leaves ten grand children, four sisters and one brother to mourn his departure. The departed had a glorious conversion and joined the church about twenty years ago. Among his last words were "Hallelujah! I am going higher." A place is vacant in our home, A voice we loved is still, A place is vacant in our hearts That never can be filled. The funeral service was held in the Nelson Methodist church Tuesday February 17th at 2:30. The Methodist choir sang four favorite hymns of the departed. The pastor Vincent R. Beebe was assisted in the service by Brother C.L. Anker Christensen, for many years a friend of the Hoffmans. There was a large attendance testifying to the love and esteem in which the departed was held. The body was laid to rest in the Nelson cemetery.
