Description	:	A native of County Armagh, Ireland, Charles McArdle arrived in the U.S. in May 1858, settled in Dover, Strafford County, New Hampshire, and became a naturalized U.S. citizen on February 17, 1875. On July 5, 1876, he began to make improvements on his 120 acre homestead in Galena Township, Dixon County, NE, just south of Martinsburg. He moved his family from Dover, NH, to the homestead on November 1, 1876. The McArdle homestead land patent was issued on August 5, 1885. His 5 eldest children, Mary, Ellen, Margaret, Catherine, and Michael, were born in New Hampshire.... Daughter Catherine, 1 year old in the 1870 U.S. census, Dover, NH, apparently died before the family moved to Nebraska, because on July 17, 1876, Charles signed his homestead application reporting only 4 children. On October 15, 1888, his daughter, Mary A. McArdle, became the second wife of Charles D. Tiffany. Mary A. McArdle Tiffany died on August 18, 1906. On February 15, 1908, his wife, Catherine Reynolds McArdle died. On October 30, 1909, Charles died. In the 1910 U.S. census, of Galena township, Dixon County, NE, three of his four surviving children, Michael, Ellen, and Elizabeth, lived on the homestead. Margaret resided at 1417 W. 5th Street, Sioux City, IA.
