Powers, a resident of Silver Creek for fifty-four years, died at the family home in Silver Creek last Saturday, after a brief illness, having failed rapidly during the previous ten days, but prior to that time being up and around. During much of his life in Silver Creek Mr. Powers was connected with the building trade, and supervised the construction of many homes in and around Silver Creek and vicinity. He was also interested in the construction of store buildings at Duncan a number of years ago, and in the building of a school house at Cody. Charles Ned Powers, son of James and Martha Jane Powers, was born at Springfield, Vermont January 26, 1855. He passed away at his home in Silver Creek Nebraska July 30 at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 4 days. When a young man he came to Schuyler, Nebraska in 1872. In 1876 he was united in marriage to Jennie Stone. To this union a daughter, Maude, was born who passed away in infancy. His wife, Jennie, died in 1892. In 1884 Mr. Powers came to Silver Creek where, in 1895 he was united in marriage with Kate Maurer. To this union three children were born: Lorna, Ned and Paul. Mr. Powers was preceded in death by his wife, Kate, and two of their children: Lorna and Paul. He raised two nieces, Anna and Burley Irving, after the death of their mother in 1882, when they were small children. Mr. Powers was confirmed in the Episcopal church in 1923. He is survived by his son, Ned; one sister, Mrs. Mattie Robeson of San Diego, California; one granddaughter and four grandsons, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the residence, Reverend F.L. Harris reading the Episcopal service. Burial was made in the Silver Creek cemetery.
